Klein Michaels is a night-shift maintenance worker at the Yard, a remote government-adjacent facility in the Mojave Desert. The Yard has rules. Some are explicit. Some are learned. The most important one is unmarked: never look down corridor five.
The night after he looked down corridor five, Klein returns to the Yard for another shift. He is not supposed to be there. He is going to be there anyway. There is a different door this time. It is not supposed to be open.
Klein returns to the Yard to read the older anomaly logs. He finds his own handwriting on entries dated a year before he started working there. Then the cassette starts playing on its own.
